My Point Of View About Teaching

I would like to become a teacher for two main reasons. First even if I am not (and don't claim to be) the best but I think more teachers who care. And second is it is my passion, teaching is the biggest pleasure that I have ever experienced and I have no words enough to express it. For example when I was teaching a 4th grade student in İstanbul (starting grade was 4 in Turkey), I was having much fun that I found myself waiting for the class hour with a rytmic hearthbeat. Enother example would be in university's volunteers society activity, I had a three child class and every week I was thinking like "what we gonna play?!" "Oh! That song? I wanna dance with it again!". Teaching children is enlighting my life and I really love it! And I do not ashame when you find me dancing "head shoulders knees" song :) . Personally I DO HATE  too much information so I would like to learn or hope to learn reactions based on situations which I think would be really helpful.

MY PAST

When I was little I remember that I was always bored at class after learning the topic. My childhood was generally chaotic and this is because my positiveness and my destiny's negativeness tried to make balance. I find school to be waste of time and this is because I was able to learn in a shorter time and rest was "stealing my time". The best teacher I ever had was Sıdıka hoca because she made me realize that one is a big number especially when we count human beings. The worst teacher I ever had was one of my English teachers because she made me realize that motivation really matters; if we make our student cry we can have them out of topic and actually this is out of a teachers curriculum. The best thing anyone has ever said to me is "You are a 'real' teacher!". The worst thing anyone has ever said to me is "You don't need to question, just shout up and obey!"  I am proud that I am a person speaks even it is unexpected. I am a crazily honest person. The greatest lesson I learned was love everyone, but do not rely on anyone but still love them and I learned it when I experienced the "real world". The wisest thing anyone ever told me was something like "hope exists or else..." and it helped me to keep on.

MY FUTURE

  • In my twenties I hope to finish witting my book.
  • In my thirties I hope to have a good carrier in my favourite major which is Teaching Turkish as a foreign language.
  • In my forties I hope to have a happy family.
  • The goals I have include happiness.
  • I am worried what if my grades affect my carrier.
  • I know for sure that I am able to teach.

MY PRESENT

  • I believe that everybody born good then sometimes confused.
  • I am happy when I am the reason of a smile.
  • What no one realizes about me is I actually know wht they think and I dont give a shape :P
  • My destiny is make people but especially someones happier than others.

ABOUT ME

My name is Seray Ş. ÇÖREKÇİ. I was born on 14/06/1994 I am a Turkish citizen and this makes me feel happy. I am currently at Middle East Technical University studying Teaching English as a Foreign Language because I love teaching. What I like about my studies is the feeling when I saw someone learned something. What I dislike about my studies is there are too much paperwork. I am saving up for publishing because I would like to publish my beginner Turkish book.

My home is in Beylikdüzü/İstanbul and I have lived here for 12 years. My favorite activity includes teachin Turkish as a foreign language and I love to do this because I love people from different cultures and teaching my own language. I love to say "cute" and my most over-used saying is probably "That's cute!" (for anything makes me feel good). My favorite meal involves meat and my favorite snack food is cupcake. The best time of the day for me is beginning of the day (around 7 pm) because no one is awake.

My greatest inspiration is music, because when I listen to music; my brain is "surrounded and attacked" by different ideas and stories and that makes me feel good.I would like to be like to be a Turkish teacher because I would like to know different people, see different places and share my information. I think this is my "thing to do".

WHILE TEACHERS ARE CHANGING THE WORLD

I am typing these paragraphs while teachers changing the world. As education is the most powerful weapon; it is not that surprising that teachers can change the world. Even if we do not notice teachers really DO change the world. They have the power and this is their job. Naturally, having affected someone's learning process can make a difference. One by one teachers touch their student's hearts with sorrow and shape the generation.

I know one teacher who really did it. Her name is Sıdıka. She is a philosophy teacher in a high school in Istanbul. The school that she teaches in is a place where people see it as a "waste of time" or more positively "a period before the university" so; a place where people don't feel comfortable and don't see teaching/learning that important. What she did was very small or big? Maybe you decide it. In this paragraph I will only talk about what she did to me and we may only understand how big was it in the future. I was the class representative in 11th grade and her eyes and words (tools of reinforcement and motivation) made me work very hard even if they go nowhere! I worked hard had a wall newspaper about languages and changed it every week. I did my best and I saw that someone started to learn Spanish thanks to me! One person! I've changed one person's life! A lot of things happened about it by the time. But then she wanted me to be in the elections of the school representative. I was one of two girls in the election. I lost it. The winner got over one thousand votes and what I've got was 28. She came and said "Wow! 28 people voted for you, this equal to number of people who knows what do you aim!" Then I've noticed, There was no way for me to be elected, I have no charisma or good speech abilities but my thing is to work to change people. She made me smile, learn Japanese, be in English teaching department and teach Turkish as a foreign language. She created a smile form personna non grata.
